Platforms
AthenaDB is a native database: no VM or container required. First-class OS families today are Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. IBM AIX is a Planned native Unix lane (not yet in the required GA registry matrix).
Registry OS families are Early Access / In progress — built and tested
on-platform, but not registry-verified GA. Status badges on the site come from
that feed. AIX is listed as Planned only until CMake presets, runners, and a
required aix-* target land.
Linux — named distributions, not “generic Linux”
AthenaDB’s Linux matrix names the OS flavors we build for, each on x86_64 and arm64:
| Distribution | Architectures | Package | Manager | Registry lane |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Debian | x86_64, arm64 | DEB | apt | debian-* |
| Ubuntu | x86_64, arm64 | DEB | apt | ubuntu-* |
| Red Hat Enterprise Linux | x86_64, arm64 | RPM | dnf | rhel-* |
| Fedora | x86_64, arm64 | RPM | dnf | fedora-* |
| openSUSE | x86_64, arm64 | RPM | zypper | suse-* |
| SUSE Linux Enterprise | x86_64, arm64 | RPM | zypper | suse-* |
openSUSE sits beside SUSE Linux Enterprise the same way Fedora sits beside RHEL —
community and enterprise flavors of the same packaging family. They share the
registry’s suse RPM/zypper lane (athenadb-suse runners).
Dedicated self-hosted CI runners: athenadb-debian, athenadb-ubuntu,
athenadb-rhel, athenadb-fedora, athenadb-suse. We do not claim a
one-size-fits-all “Linux” binary without naming the distro lane.
Other OS families
| OS | Typical install paths | Status | | --- | --- | --- | | Windows | Graphical installer / CLI automation | Early Access | | macOS | PKG (signing/notarization evidence pending) / portable archive | Early Access | | FreeBSD | pkg / portable archive | Early Access | | Solaris | IPS pkg / portable archive | Early Access | | IBM AIX | Native packages / portable archives when the lane lands | Planned |
Identity note
DB-native RBAC is Early Access on every platform. Active Directory / Entra ID directory join is planned, including non-Windows domain join — it is not a current shipping claim.
