Licensing & activation

AthenaDB licensing is handled by a dedicated activation service. The public activation edge is live at https://license.athenadb.app. The portal owns your account; the licensing service is the source of truth for entitlements.

Editions

The product ladder is Community, Standard, Plus, Professional, Professional Plus, and Enterprise, with Trial as an evaluation state. Each paid offer grants a set of capabilities (keyword, vector, graph, and timeline search; embedding generation; clustering; sync; the Trust Fabric; domain packs) and activation limits. See the pricing page for the current comparison.

Community requires no registration, license, activation, expiry, or network check. An optional account adds convenience and management; it does not activate Community or consume capacity. Your own data can always be opened, queried, backed up, restored, and exported—a license never gates access to your data.

Trials

Start a trial from your portal account. The portal calls the device-facing trial endpoint to mint a 180-day trial license bound to your account, and your dashboard shows the live window and install count. No credit card is required.

Activating a device

Activate a device with the CLI:

athenadb db license activate <your-key>
athenadb db license trial status

Activation binds the license to a device fingerprint. Each edition allows a fixed number of concurrent activations.

Offline grace

Instances do not need to be online continuously. Each edition defines an offline grace window during which an activated instance keeps working without re-contacting the edge, after which it must check in again.

Billing

Self-service purchasing and billing are planned for a later release. During Early Access, obtain paid editions by starting a trial and contacting sales.
