AthenaDB CSP Edition
Run AthenaDB on your infrastructure with complete control over how you provision, operate, and brand the experience for your customers. Offer managed instances, databases, and AthenaDB Data Edge — policy-governed distribution that places database data close to where it is needed — with an extensive API integration service for seamless provider control.
Built for your infrastructure — under your control
CSP Edition is a custom AthenaDB version for cloud service providers. You decide which offerings to expose, how they scale across your regions, and how your platform automates day-to-day operations.
- Complete operational control on your infrastructure — you run the service your customers see
- Native encrypted AthenaDB without building a database engine
- Offer instances, databases, and Data Edge distribution shaped to your regions and capacity
- Keep data in approved regions — for example USA, North America, or EU — through geo-residency policies
- Offer Customer-Controlled Dual-Key Encryption for workloads that require customer-held data access control
- Extensive API integration service for seamless automation and control-plane integration
Offering modes
Enable the modes your footprint can support. You choose what to productize for your customers and when to expand.
Secure Data Tunnel for applications
Beyond CSP control-plane APIs, AthenaDB itself can open a Secure Data Tunnel so applications do not need their own data API gateway. The database fetches and exchanges data on behalf of the app over a bidirectional path with regularly rotating keys — on Lite, Server, and CSP nodes alike.
API integration for your control plane
CSP Edition includes an extensive API integration service designed for seamless integration with your existing orchestration, billing, and customer portals. Provision instances and databases, manage lifecycle, configure Data Edge placement, and drive operations from the systems you already run — without bolting on a foreign console.
Your customers connect to AthenaDB nodes you operate. Optionally, their own AthenaDB databases can use Data Edge to place approved data near the workloads that need it. Customer data stays on your infrastructure under your operational control.
Customer-Controlled Dual-Key Encryption
For customers that require stronger control over data access, CSP Edition is designed to support dual-key encryption. The CSP operates the platform while the customer retains an independent key-control path in its own external KMS or HSM.
Access to protected data requires authorization from both key paths. That gives the customer meaningful control to approve, restrict, or revoke access without having to move the database off your service. The same policy follows protected backups and eligible Data Edge placements. This is a planned Early Access capability, not a current compliance certification.
Database distribution with geo-residency control
AthenaDB Data Edge gives you a CDN-like distribution model built for database data: place policy-approved data at CSP-operated locations close to applications and users, instead of serving every request from one central region.
Geo-residency policies let you keep data only in approved jurisdictions or regions — such as the USA, North America, or the EU — so your service can meet customers’ data-location requirements. Your control plane determines which edge locations are eligible before data is placed or synchronized.
FAQ
- Is this the same as the VAR/MSP partner program?
- No. VAR/MSP partners resell and manage customer-owned installs. CSP Edition is a custom path for providers who host AthenaDB on their own infrastructure and offer it as a service under their control.
- How much control do we have?
- You operate the service end to end on your infrastructure — provisioning, networking, backups, customer experience, and retail pricing. CSP Edition includes an extensive API integration service so your control plane can automate and orchestrate the platform seamlessly.
- What can we offer customers?
- Managed Instances, Managed Databases, and AthenaDB Data Edge — enabled according to what your infrastructure can support and the offerings you choose to expose.
- What is AthenaDB Data Edge?
- A database distribution service for your CSP footprint. It places approved data near the applications that need it while preserving the database’s policy, identity, and synchronization controls. It is not a blind cache or an unrestricted global replica.
- Can customers restrict where data is stored?
- Yes. Geo-residency policies let you constrain storage and edge placement to approved locations such as the USA, North America, or the EU. Your control plane enforces these placement boundaries when it provisions and distributes data.
- Can customers control access to their encryption keys?
- Planned Customer-Controlled Dual-Key Encryption requires both the CSP-managed key path and a customer-controlled external KMS or HSM authorization to access protected database data. Customers can revoke or narrow their key authorization without giving up their CSP service.
- Does CSP Edition include Secure Data Tunnel?
- Yes. Secure Data Tunnel is a product-wide AthenaDB feature — Lite, Server, and CSP. Apps can let AthenaDB fetch and exchange data over rotating tunnel keys without building a separate data API gateway.
- Is CSP Edition generally available?
- Not yet. We are building the edition and taking Early Access inquiries. We do not claim a GA marketplace or white-label domains in v1.
